Building Behaviors Developmentally: A New Formalism

چکیده

This paper advocates a developmental approach to building complex interactive behaviors for robotic systems. A developmental methodology is advantageous because it provides a structured decomposition of complex tasks, because it facilitates learning, and because it allows for a gradual increase in task complexity. The developmental approach provides a structured means both of dividing a task among research units, as well as a metric for evaluating the progress of the task. Initial work with developmental modeling has also hinted that these skill decompositions may make the overall task easier to accomplish through the re-use of knowledge gained from developmental precursors. We report here on two projects of building behaviors developmentally for a humanoid robot. In the rst project, the robot learned to reach to a visual target by following a developmental progression similar to those observed in infants. The second project outlines a proposal for building social skills developmentally.

Modeling and Evaluation of Stochastic Discrete-Event Systems with RayLang Formalism

In recent years, formal methods have been used as an important tool for performance evaluation and verification of a wide range of systems. In the view points of engineers and practitioners, however, there are still some major difficulties in using formal methods. In this paper, we introduce a new formal modeling language to fill the gaps between object-oriented programming languages (OOPLs) us...

Dialogue Management as Interactive Tree Building

We introduce a new dialogue model and a formalism for limited-domain dialogue systems, which works by interactively building dialogue trees. The model borrows its fundamental ideas from type theoretical grammars and Dynamic Syntax. The resulting dialogue theory is a simple and light-weight formalism, which is still capable of advanced dialogue behaviour.

[Comparison of attachment-related social behaviors in autistic disorder and developmental disability].

OBJECTIVE This study examined social behaviors related to attachment in children with autistic disorder and the differences in these behaviors from those observed in developmentally disabled children. Additionally, we aimed to investigate the relationship between attachment behaviors and clinical variables, such as age, cognitive development, severity of autism, language development, and mother...

Modeling Dependability of Dynamic Computing Systems

A trend actually characterizing any technological and application field is the use of control and computing devices. This moves the attention of the insiders on the management of more complex processes and systems, modifying requirements, tasks and skills. In this scenario the dependability evaluation becomes strategic. The increasing complexity of systems requires a serious revision of the tec...
